Op. Dr. Eser Çatal is an Ophthalmology Specialist with over 15 years of comprehensive clinical and surgical experience, based in Antalya, Turkey. Ophthalmology

Intraocular lens
The permanent lens implanted after cataract removal or for refractive lens exchange.
Presbyopia
Age-related loss of near focus, usually starting in the mid-forties as the natural lens stiffens.
Cataract
Clouding of the eye's natural lens, causing misty vision, glare and fading colours. Treated by replacing the lens.
Multifocal lens
An implant providing several focal distances, greatly reducing dependence on glasses at the cost of some night-time halos.
LASIK
Vision correction in which a thin corneal flap is lifted, the underlying tissue reshaped by laser, and the flap replaced.
PRK

Excision
Surgical removal of tissue. Excisional means the whole lesion is taken; incisional means only a sample.
Retinopathy
Damage to the retina's blood vessels, most commonly from diabetes. Assessed before cataract or lens surgery.
Oedema
Fluid gathering in tissue, causing swelling. Expected after most surgery and settles over weeks.
Amblyopia
Reduced vision in an eye that did not develop normally in childhood, often linked to untreated squint.
