How to lose weight: Types of Bariatrics

How to lose weight ? You can go on a diet, exercise, or take medications. But if you have tried to lose weight in this way for many years and if excess weight causes you serious health problems, then you can think about the surgical treatment for your weight management.

Why is it necessary to undergo weight loss surgery at all? As we know, being overweight causes very serious medical problems in many people. In this case, it is imperative to reduce weight in order to improve health and prolong life.

No other methods, besides surgical, do not give such a strong, and most importantly, stable weight loss. It is known that only 1% of people maintain a reduced weight after losing weight through diet or pills, the rest are gaining the same or even more weight. Therefore, more and more people are opting for surgical treatment.

The most popular types of bariatric surgery today are gastric balloon, gastric band, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass.

Gastric Balloon

It is a temporary measure, i.e. it is set for a certain period (no more than 6 months), after which it must be removed. It helps to shed some excess weight in obesity grade II and below. Gastric balloon is a temporary measure that allows you to lose weight in preparation for a more effective operation.

Gastric Banding

This is the name of the procedure for placing a restricting ring at the entrance to the stomach It is a fairly effective and safe operation. But recently, doctors have begun to gradually abandon it, although it shows good results, after a few years, most patients develop complications associated with the bandage itself. As a result, you have to re-operate and redo everything.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

Which has been performed all over the world for more than 10 years. During sleeve gastrectomy operation most of the stomach is removed, due to which its volume decreases, as well as the area where the hunger hormone ghrelin is produced. After such an operation, a patient not only cannot eat as much food as before, but also gets a feeling of fullness much faster. The effect persists for a long time, although if a person starts to eat again in excess, then in 5-7 years the stomach will stretch. At the same time, it will not reach the same size. The advantage of resection is the fact that it practically does not give complications.

Gastric Bypass

It is a surgery that is a rather complex type of surgery, and at the same time it is very effective. This type of intervention is ideal for patients with type 2 diabetes. For example, after gastric bypass surgery, diabetes symptoms disappear in 9 out of 10 patients, and this effect can be noted already in the first days after surgery, when a person is just starting to lose weight. At the same time, it has a number of limitations, which the patient must be informed about.

However, the first clear improvements, for example, the normalization of blood sugar levels, can be noted within a month or two.

The postoperative rehabilitation period is rather short – about 3 days. However, then a person needs to take care of himself – take the prescribed vitamins and minerals, follow the recommendations on food intake and its quality.
