After your eyelid surgery, you will be provided with dressings over your eyelids. These may reduce your vision. In addition, ice treatment is applied around the eyes to control edema. Despite these precautions, swelling and bruising may occur. These are absolutely normal after surgery and they will increase until the 3rd day. Then, these gradually start to disappear.
After the procedure, there may be a slight leakage and bleeding that may be observed in the tapes covering the eyelids. Coughing and sneezing can increase these complaints. After the procedure, there may be complaints such as stinging and burning around the eyes. These are completely normal. These complaints can be alleviated by using prescribed medications as instructed.
In general, from the 4th day after the procedure, the edema around the eyes begins to decrease. Also, your vision level begins to increase to its original state. The bands around the eyes may be removed on the 3rd or 5th day after surgery. You should act softly while removing the tapes on your eyelids.
To achieve the optimum result, you should avoid heavy sports, solarium, sauna, sunbath, and steam bath (any edema causing applications) for at least a month.
In the first weeks, there may be tension, stinging, and watering in the eyes due to exposure to the wind and sun. To avoid such possible complaints, you can use sunglasses that do not directly touch the operated area.

- Sports: Any heavy exercises are not recommended for at least a month. Avoid significant physical exertion, lifting or coercion, since it can impair your postoperative recovery.
- Sexual Intercourse: After 14 days, you may continue with your sexual activities.
- Alcohol and Smoking: Avoid alcohol for 2 weeks after surgery. However, avoid consuming alcohol until you have finished taking your painkillers. Do not smoke for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
- Driving: You can start driving and maneuvering safely and comfortably when you are no longer using the prescribed medication. In general, this time frame is approximately between 5 – 10 days after surgery.
